"I really enjoy using Weekly Reader Ablenet Editions. The kids are getting grade level material at an appropriate cognitive level. The children have many different ways to experience learning through their senses, by looking at pictures, by reading, and reviewing what they have read. Also the materials are ready for us to use, there is very little preparation. It is great to finally have curriculum and materials that are made especially for our kids with special needs."
Leah - Special Education Teacher, MN

“I teach a cross-categorical special needs classroom for students in grades 3-5. This is our 3rd year subscribing to the Adapted Weekly Reader and it has been a huge asset to our class. The adapted version allows my struggling readers the repetition of phrases and picture cues needed to read independently about a topic of interest to them. We also integrate the e-issues that have video clips to bring the content to life. I really like the way Science and Social Studies topics are integrated into the lessons so that my students have high quality, real life content to discuss as we read. I was able to use Whiskers as a social skills lesson. Our speech teacher came in and worked with us as we discussed ways to solve problems together and then we would integrate that feature into our writing lesson. I use the comprehension questions for a content area grade in the classroom and it also helps them to develop test taking skills. My students LOVE the joke at the end of every weekly reader and are always thrilled when they are the one who gets to read the joke aloud. As you can tell, this resource has been so valuable to my classroom. I appreciate that Weekly Reader and AbleNet have taken into consideration the needs of students with disabilities.”
Cindy - Special Needs Teacher, NC

"I really feel that every special education teacher and their students could benefit from the Weekly Reader AbleNet Editions subscription. The adaptations and teacher lesson plan ideas are so well thought out and focus on presenting curriculum that all students can truly be engaged and have successful experiences. Our state of Florida has developed access points to the State Standards for all content areas to align with the alternate assessment that our students are required to take. The Weekly Reader AbleNet Edition is one of the few tools that I have seen on the market that is teacher friendly and provides what is needed to give our students a more rigorous curriculum."
Gayle - 2009 Clarissa Hug National Teacher of the Year

"I do push-in speech/language therapy in a classroom with 12 students with mild, moderate-severe intellectual disabilities. We LOVE the AbleNet Weekly Reader lessons, and use them every week as part of our curriculum!"
Kellee – SLP SC

"One of my students was the hit of his 6th-grade class today when he shared those 35 penguin surprises! What a riot. What a generous gift! I was proud to tell his classmates about Weekly Reader Ablenet Editions. We look forward to more editions in the coming year!"
Sue – Special Education NH

"We have nine students in our class and we use all three levels of your Weekly Reader, Edition 2. As well, we carry through on many activities that correspond, taking our Theme of The Week from your Weekly Reader AbleNet Editions topics!"
Celia - NY

"Our class read the Penguin issue following our Holiday Break. They were excited to find out that there's a penguin surprise that will be sent to them!"
Cindy – Special Education NC

"My students have really enjoyed learning about the penguins. They wanted to know if they were taller than an emperor penguin, so we spent part of our math time measuring them."
Dana – Special Education LA

"We LOVE the Weekly Reader AbleNet Editions; especially the interactive part we pull up on the smartboard!"

Thanks so much for the pumpkin surprise! Our students are really enjoying the Weekly Reader curriculum! Students that have had difficulty sitting and paying attention to lessons in the past are sitting, paying attention AND enjoying the lessons- THANK YOU!
Kristin - Life Skills Teacher in Texas

I was just looking for your information to contact you (AbleNet) and say thank you. The students really enjoyed the surprise! We read the AbleNet version of Blackbeard's Ship, Ahoy! and went on a treasure hunt for the surprises you generously provided. The students were excited and the booty was a great addition to the lesson. Thank you again.
Mary - Washburn High

I am inquiring about the "classroom sweet surprise" I read about on the Weekly Reader website! We have 11 students in our Life Skills class, and LOVE our weekly reader lessons. All of our students are able to access the curriculum using the various levels for each lesson, and we love it!
We are at Bang Elementary in Cy-Fair ISD, TX.
