The Next™ Transition Skills System allows all IEP team members input to each student's transition plan. Next™ gives you the structure to ensure involvement in a coordinated, constructive manner.
The goal-setting process begins with the Transition Skills Survey. This simple document outlines the major transition skills focus areas, as well as the specific topics (rubrics) within each focus area. Your state requirements form the foundation for this survey, while still allowing you to customize the survey for your district and individual student needs.
This survey is distributed ahead of a student's IEP meeting to parents, teachers, administrators, and other team members responsible for that student. By collecting this data, the IEP meeting can quickly focus on the areas of broad agreement. Once broad categories and specific skills within those categories have been established for the student, the group can use the transition skills to select the specific activities the teacher will work toward and measure during the school year.
After the meeting, the specific transition outcomes are loaded into the Next™ desktop software. Teachers use the software to manage student progress, print customized worksheets, and assemble a student-transition folio – all of which provides an easy reference for ongoing data collection and year-to-year comparisons.
