Play Games, Role-Play, Drama and Movement Activities to Build the Brain

Play games to hook young learners onto learning and create a joyful learning environment. Games, role-play, drama and movement activities are not only highly engaging and fun for children but they help to build their brains, strengthen attention, self-regulation and social skills of young learners. They also help to reduce their stress levels. This webinar session will discuss how to use a variety of games and role-play activities in early childhood and elementary settings and how to link them with instructional content (language, math and science vocabulary and concepts).

When children are engaged in play, they have an opportunity to make plans, and then to adjust those plans in response to what happens while playing the game, exercising executive function skills ––inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, and working memory. This session will present a variety of games (e.g., Simon Says, GoNoGo, Musical Chairs with a Twist, Charades, Twenty Questions, etc.) and how to embed them within instructional activities and routines to stimulate and strengthen new neural connections and foster executive function.
