Hands-Free: An Introduction to Switch Support on iOS Devices and Apple TV

Switch Control provides a robust solution for built-in switch access on iOS devices such as the iPad and iPhone. With tvOS 10, this support now extends to the Apple TV, which can also serve as a hub for controlling a number of smart devices compatible with Apple’s HomeKit home automation protocol (such as lights, locks and more).This session will focus on the key features of Switch Control across these two platforms, including the different access methods (auto scanning, manual scanning and single-switch step scanning), Recipes for performing repetitive actions such as flipping the pages in an ebook, Long Press for adding more than one action to a switch press, Device Switching for using one switch interface with multiple devices, Point Mode for adding switch accessibility to apps that lack it and more. After first issuing 1:1 iPads, Chromebooks and laptops, many schools are now implementing BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) programs that provide more choice for educators and learners. Apps for Guided Reading

Are you already doing Guided Reading in your classroom? Are you interested in using your iPad as a Guided Reading resource? This webinar will begin with a brief summary of what guided reading involves, and then will discuss using digital storybook apps, eBooks and other iPad based resources for Guided Reading in the classroom. A discussion of the characteristics of a good guided reading app will occur, along with criteria for selecting apps for guided reading. The role of word-by-word highlighting in Guided Reading and in literacy generally will be discussed, along with research around student's comprehension of enhanced eBooks. Resources for finding digital storybook apps will also be covered, and access options and alternative access to digital storybook and eBooks on the iPad will also be covered briefly.
