Executive Functioning 101: Foundations & Practical Strategies for SLPs Live

Available September 26th, 2025 | 12:00pm CDT | 60 minutes | 0.1 ASHA CEUs

This session will introduce the foundations of executive functioning (EF) and why it's essential for speech-language pathologists to understand. Participants will learn how EF challenges show up in therapy and classrooms, and walk away with practical, evidence-informed strategies to support students across age groups.

Feature Match AAC to the Intervention On-demand

Available September 28th, 2025 | 30 minutes | 0.05 ASHA CEUs

This is a collaborative course with AssistiveWare

Amanda Hartmann, Senior Speech Pathologist

Traditional AAC feature matching focuses on user access needs. However, this focus can become restrictive with early users whose skills are still emerging. This session will describe how to broaden the scope of feature matching to ensure the AAC we select is the best match for the user, their partners, their environment, and the demands of the intervention (such as AAC modeling) our users require.

Presenters: Erin Sheldon, Director of Learning Design at AssistiveWare

Speech-Generating Device Assessment Demonstration: A Practical Guide for SLPs Live

Available October 10th, 2025 | 11:00am CDT | 60 minutes | 0.1 ASHA CEUs

When it comes to assessing an individual’s ability to use a high-tech speech-generating device (SGD), a prompted response isn’t a true reflection of their ability at all. Most individual’s resist having demands put on them, which leads to refusal or worse. This session will teach a better approach to assessing an individual’s ability to use an SGD. Participants will view a video example of an AAC app being trialed by an individual with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Down Syndrome during an AAC eval and observe the SLP using strategies that elicit the participation needed to evaluate vision, discrimination, learning, fine motor, language, and behavior. There will be time for questions at the end.

Refining AAC Modeling: Considerations for Communication Partners Live

Available October 21st, 2025 | 12:00pm CDT | 60 minutes | 0.1 ASHA CEUs

This is a collaborative course with AssistiveWare

Amanda Hartmann, Senior Speech Pathologist

While "model, model, model" sounds simple, AAC modeling is actually complex. By offering communication partners more specific guidance, we could encourage more meaningful, high-quality learning experiences. This workshop will look back at foundational research in modeling and compare this to current practice. Participants will leave with practical strategies to incorporate into their daily practice.

When Models Aren't Sticking: Supporting Minimally Speaking Gestalt Language Processors Live

Available November 3rd, 2025 | 12:00pm CDT | 90 minutes | 0.15 ASHA CEUs

Professionals often encounter minimally or non-speaking gestalt language processors (GLPs) who do not progress through Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) stages in typical ways. Despite consistent modeling, regulation, and child-led support, gestalt language development may appear stalled, leaving clinicians and caregivers uncertain about next steps. This 90 minute intensive, led by Katja Piscitelli, M.S., CCC-SLP, provides a structured exploration of intervention strategies for GLPs whose communication development diverges from expected NLA patterns. Participants will examine the intersection of gestalt language processing, motor speech challenges, and neurodiversity-affirming practice.
