Attendees will walk away from this session understanding benefits of working on vocabulary strategies rather than arbitrary word lists, benefits of focusing on Tier 2 vocabulary, and free resources to address goals. Perfect session for secondary school-based speech-language pathologists. Whether you are new to the field or veteran SLPs can walk away with practical ideas they can use the very next day.
Presenter: Hallie Sherman, M.S. CCC-SLP
Presenter Biography: Hallie Sherman, M.S. CCC-SLP is a licensed speech-language pathologist in New York. She worked in the public schools for over 15 years before she left the schools to work as the CEO full time for Speech Time Fun, Inc. Hallie provides materials and trainings for SLPs working with grades 4-12 to help them plan with ease and confidence. She does this through her SLP Elevate membership, her TPT resources, her podcast SLP Coffee Talk, her virtual conference she hosts 3x a year called the Speech Retreat and the other various trainings for organizations and associations.

Learner Outcomes
- List 3 resources available to SLPs for quick vocabulary activities that are effective in getting students a deeper understanding of new vocabulary words and how to use strategies to learn word meanings
- Describe the importance of teaching Tier 2 vocabulary words and how these vocabulary words relate to the curriculum
- Describe at least two strategies to make vocabulary activities meaningful and fun for your older speech students
Agenda
- Introduction (5 minutes)
- Research and rationale for focusing on Tier 2 vocabulary and strategies (10 minutes)
- Demonstration of various websites that can be used to work on Tier 2 vocabulary (35 minutes)
- Conclusion and Questions (10 minutes)
To be reported to ASHA CE, participants must indicate their preference to be reported on the post-webinar assessment and achieve a minimum score of 80% accuracy. Unlimited attempts are permitted, but partial credit is not available. The assessment must be completed within one week of the webinar.
